Frum's point was it wasn't about basic principles. There were many MAJOR elements incorporate into the bill that were GOP ideas. Individual mandates, insurance pools, waste and fraud cuts in medicare, etc etc. The GOP could not compromise because their rhetoric made it impossible to do so. Great for Fox and talk radio, bad for GOP politicians who actually have to govern.
