I'm willing to split the hairs finely here. Characterizing people who chanted "drill baby drill!" as morons, especially against the backrop of a burning oil rig, sounds to me like well inside the bounds of protected political speech. But going on to attack Tom personally was perhaps just a bit over the line.
I can predict that if Tom responds there'll be a flame war, so could we perhaps nip it in the bud?
