None of their complex theorizing stands up to even coarse examination, Rob. These are people whistling in the dark.
ER's last post is an exercise in imagination. He defines "middle class" and "working class" as two distinct entities (the term "working class" is itself farcical). And think about all the real self-styled "elites" you have seen or heard of, and think about all the social climbers trying to become part of that number. How many of those struck you as conservatives? Do the families you see at "tea party" protests fit this image? Do the people you know?
Robert is comforted by the idea that conservatives are stupid old people, operating from the gut, not intellect. Again, look around for yourself. Does this strike you as true? Do leftists impress you as "rational," as in the sense that reality and reason drive their politics and ideas? Which side historically does the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result, even with the glaring failures burning in front of their eyes?
In the context of irrationality, why does Robert continue to ignore the years of leftist protests and their characteristics? Which would any rational person rather have holding a protest in front of their store downtown, a bunch of "tea party" people, or a bunch of anti-capitalist leftists?
They're making it up as they go along, Rob, creating theories to fit their preferences, not the facts. Don't sweat it.
