^Moderates and liberals etc. have for too long made the mistake of trying to appease the right by shifting just a little bit to the right, in the spirit of "compromise and bipartisanship". Only the right never meets us halfway, and so gradually over time the line has shifted to the point where, now, they can claim that America is a "center-right" nation...after having incrementally redefined the center for so many years.^
Poor Democrats! Shoved so rudely toward the right! Well, to make your point, all you have to do is show that JFK and John McCormack are to the left of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi. I'll wait.
The Democratic Party has been eaten from the inside by the leftist movement, like that worm that eats grasshoppers. Democrats routinely propose statist ideas now that would have had them run out of town thirty years ago. The only way they win elections is by pretending to be something they aren't. Then when they win, it's a different story.
The current backlash has a reason.
