Lately, I've been wondering if maybe we haven't been a bit too harsh with W. I think the future will judge him as a basically decent man, albeit of modest talents, but misled and betrayed by Machiavellian counselors desperate to hide from him the evidence of their bad judgment and hideous crimes.
They manipulated his sincere but naive beliefs and gentle nature in order to pave the path of their own ambition and cynical view of the world. By the time he became aware of their hubris and treachery, it was too late. It is a tale, full of sound and fury, straight out of Elizabethan drama.
Someone should compose an opera about him. I can see it now, Dubya: Twilight of the Gods.😉
