Try this one. Make a list of the national leaders or parties that brutalized and mass murdered their own people that did NOT call themselves "socialist." Including Gadaffi and Assad, come to that.

I have long had Europe held up to me as examples of "benign socialism." If you're paying attention, poster boys like Sweden have been backing away from the idea, and those who haven't are collapsing, having run out of other people's money. You don't need jack boots and gulags to wreck a nation.

Next thing you'll be telling us is that the Nazis were Socialists because they had the word in their name.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Hitler's totalitarian Germany had nothing whatsoever in common with Stalin's totalitarian Russia. After all, they wore different uniforms and hated each other, right? Remember the communists in this country were anti-war and making excuses for Hitler as long as the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact held out.

You're having abstraction problems. Would it work better if I used "collectivist?" "Statist?" Tell me how to effectively define in your mind a society where a centralized political authority controls its people at every level, including the economic one, and I'll use it for your benefit.
