Depends on where you live in Calif. it's a big state and we have a whole lot of millionaires living here so the median house prices are generally high. here is map of Sacramento our capital city showing the differences. You can also use this to check out any city in the country to see what the housing prices are going for.
This problem is not only happening in Calif. remember the Wisconsin problems and other states have been addressing the same issues.
