Re: Reagan

Regarding the economic, er 'successes' of Reagan.... Could you be more specific? I assume you don't mean the 10 years of deficits, the failed gobeldygook of supply-side economics, the failure of our country to compete in foreign markets doring his tenure, the erosion of our heavy industry.... etc.

If you 'except' all of that, then yeah... It was an unqualified success. Just like Ghengis was a nice guy if you excluded murder, rape, pillage etc.

There are few people outside the very political or the very wealthy who advocate that supply-side economics works now or in the past. My old Thesis advisor back in Grad School held one of those gold Sweedish medals in Economics, and he seemed to treat it as a bad joke. Not that argument from authority is my bag... ;-)

The argument that the success of the 90's was due to early-80's Reaganomics is really a sham argument. Its like saying ghosts and demons are really responsible for solar radiation. I tell proponents to prove it and they spit back "Well, you can't disprove it". Of course it can't be disproven, but I dare you to draw one *supportable* causal connection between the two events.

<waiting, covered in Shuttle Tiles, for your response> ;-)
