Re: The Moon was lost long ago...

"This doesn't work at Mars. Sweating does if you use a MCP Suit of a breathable fabric like Lycra or Spandex."

Of course on Mars the water would still freeze & this suit isn't using a block of ice.

"That is my point about the whole concept of doing a Lunar Base or mission to gain useful equipment for Mars. It doesn't fly."

Not interested in NASA building a Lunar base.

"The comms are different the suits are different, etc, etc, etc..."

You might want different suits for different task regardless of whether on the Moon or Mars.

"You would restrict the use of the Moon to only that area visible to Earth and L 1?"
Yes, as far as NASA manned lunar operation- note that with a relay a crew can go in areas which do not have line of sight with Earth, but rather line of sight with relay.

"The shadowed areas at the poles where water ice might be found don't fall into this area."
These areas are in craters and crater rims do fall into this area.

"What do you do for positioning?"
?

"Yes, NASA should continue to explore the Moon, but robots work fine and would answer all the important questions."

Robots might be able to do the job, but can they do the job at a lower total cost. Humans have a higher capability than robots as far as doing exploration on the ground. You should be well aware of this if you advocate Manned Mars.

"BTW, a Soyuz launch is about 10 million and it was once designed to fly CIS-Lunar space. Maybe you should investigate a paying flyby of the Moon with the two 'spare' seats selling for 40 million each..."

As far as Tourism, I think 100k for a suborbit flight is more promising at the moment. Perhaps after NASA goes to Moon to determine if there is minable water, the launch system used could have an additional use for type of tourism you mentioned. I think NASA would be better off if it didn't use Russia launch system for going to the Moon- unless the Russian want to turn the Soyuz into a more international launch vehicle and launching closer to equator- think of something like a Sea Launch Soyuz.
