Unbecoming. Cheap shot, and it missed.

"It's amazing that anyone wouldn't know that simple fact, just as some call him Jehovah and others call him by different names."

Now, why do you suppose the example used these synonyms for "God"? Because the author didn't know they were synonymous? If you're going for that kind of cheap shot, you ought to at least hit, or look petty, spiteful and silly.

OK. Let's make our little hero Willy Little Eagle. Says all the same things. Family has been in the US for 8,000 years before Christ, Great-grandpa was a US Marine in the South Pacific in WWII, Grandpa was a US Marine in Vietnam, Dad was a US Marine deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1990.

Willy says what about me? My great-grandfather, my grandfather and my father have all told me about the Great Spirit. The Great Spirit doesn't sound like the "God" the other kids talk about. In fact, the "Great Spirit" is a lot of "Spirits", and it's not like "God".

"Why can't I just pledge allegiance to my country, and not have to pledge allegiance to their country which is under their "God"?

"Or, if they all mean the same, why don't they use my "Great Spirit's" name? And Mohammed's "Allah's" name? Why is it always their name? After all, "Great Spirit" is English, too.

"Or, why can't I just pledge allegiance to my country? Isn't that good enough for them? Do I have to include whatever they mean by "God"?

What if I don't know what they mean by "God". Am I still pledging allegiance to anything I know?

Heck. Just leave it out.
