When in history has an oppressed people been freed of their oppressor without violence?
You lament casualties and violence yet there is no non-violent solution to remove a person who is extremely violent.
Read Will and Ariel Durant's Lesson's from History, think about it for awhile and then get back to me.

We are removing Saddam and removing the threat he poses to the US due to his desire to amass WMD. Liberation of the Iraqi people is merely a side benefit and good PR. Our mission is not to preserve civilian lives - it is to oust Saddam. Civilians will die, but as many, or more, would die under more years of Saddam anyway. Net: Gain.
