The UN has proved itself useless by failing to enforce its own decisions. An international source of law is useless if it won't enforce its decision. Those laws are supposed to provide security for everyone. No country should give up its security to another body if that body shows it is useless in providing such security.
Thankyou France for making the UN a toothless has been. France could have easily leveraged support from Russia and China into tougher inspections with a real deadline but chose instead to project a lack of any willingness to enforce the resolutions. The result was a very predictable lack of cooperation from Iraq. France did almost the exact opposite of what it needed to do to prevent a war. It was obvious that would be the outcome of the path they chose so why did they choose it? There was an option that could of have prevented war. While it can be argued that the Bush admin did not want that option, Britain (Blair) did and may have been able to persuade the US if France (excuse me Chirac et al) really was interested in a solution rather than scoring Arab opinion points.

Mark
