Analogy

Here's an analogy that I hope will show how weak your argument is.

You live in a neighborhood with a severely dysfunctional family. The children in the family are dirty and covered with bruises. The place is a mess, but the father always has new and expensive things for himself. Every now and then, one of the children dies after a beating or malnutrition. Should you do anything to help them?

WE CAN NOT MAKE THAT CHOICE FOR THEM!

Throwing off tyranny must be done by the oppressed! Thats what revolution is, an act by those ruled who refuse the rule of their masters. Pure and simple. If we walk in, like we are, and start shooting up their civilization (or whats left of it) to change out their ruler, we are speaking for them without their consent, are ruling over them, are removing their freedom and CANNOT call it liberation. To do so is a bald lie born from optimistic self-delusion.

This isn't to call the Iraqi people children. However, the average Iraqi is just as powerless as the children in my analogy, and they've suffered just as much. Are we to sit back and refuse to get involved because they're too weak and oppressed to liberate themselves? Are we that gutless as a nation?

Fortunately, the answer to that last question is no.
