It's not about redistibuting wealth. Its about how to fund necessary government services. Redistributing wealth should not be the primary goal. Providing necessary services should be. In that context what is the fairest taxation system? One that helps keep democracy vibrant by minimizing consolidation of power and having those who benefit the most from our system pay the most or one that taxes everyone at the same rate.
Answer a simple question guys. Do you believe we should strive for equality of opportunity to the extent that people are free benefit as much from their abilities as anyone with equal talent? I know most of us consider equality of outcome and economic condition to be a stupid demotivating socialistic goal. I would think however that most agree we should strive for equality of opportunity. There is certainly room for debate on how to achieve that, but many of you seem to be avoiding the issue altogether.

Mark
