It seems a lot of the public schools aren't doing a very good job. One definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over while somehow expecting a different outcome. Perhaps we need to consider some alternatives. In many parts of the country, what we have now is not working. While I won't go so far as the "separation of school and state" crowd (at least not initially), it is a reasonable act to question how government is running the schools.
Back to the original topic, given the many alternatives now available, I fail to see the need for government owned media outlets. That smacks of "state run" media like is the norm in so much of the world. What is there on NPR or PBS that isn't available elsewhere?
If you believe that some media outlets deserve to be subsidized, why not other business like car dealerships and restaurants. After all, there are a lot of business that fail each year. That doesn't seem fair, does it? Why should they have to fail just because they don't meet their customers' needs or can't compete?
