Selective quotes

Interesting choice of quotes, Tom. You quoted reports over a period of less than a month, from late May to late June.

The very next line after your quote reads:

As the summer wore on, incidents decreased and so did any evidences of formal organization for guerrilla activities. There were, it seemed, no more "Werewolves."
...
As late as September the Xll Corps Intelligence Summaries were reporting an occasional incident such as:

"82nd Div reported body wearing GI shorts found in Danube River vic Mariapocking 1 Sep 45. No evidence of foul play apparent.
...
But the reality of resistance began to fade in the minds of the XII Corps personnel. A series of relaxations of the rules affecting the carrying of weapons took place.

The resistance tapered off quickly, and instead of the constant attacks US personnel in Iraq are still experiencing four months later, four months after World War II there were only occasional incidents, and those suspicious, clearly not organized guerilla resistance.

Another observation I must make is the relative timescales. World War II took 4 years (from the US perspective), while the Iraq War took less than 4 weeks. It would seem that our ability to wage war has improved dramatically, while our ability to wage peace has deteriorated dramatically.
