You can massage it around to make it look like it wasn't a REAL problem if you want, but there was in fact armed resistance after the "end" of hostilities. If you were holding Raoul to the same standards as you are holding Bush, you'd be calling him a liar.
I don't know if this unit was typical, if it saw more of this sort of thing than others. Units in Iraq down south aren't seeing anywhere close to the grief that units in Sunni areas are seeing.
It is also worth remembering that we obliterated the opposition in Germany, as opposed to what happened in Iraq, where a great number of the opposing armies simply melted away among the civilians. That some of them are popping up again is hardly surprising.
Four months? Davin was touting five months. At some point, I'm going to get you guys down to an accurate timeline. May 1st was the end of major combat operations. It is now July 20. That's about 81 days by mental count, or 11 1/2 weeks. Less than three months. Of the 92 men who have died since then, 35 were by hostile fire.
During the Vietnam War we had an average of 18 deaths a day for over seven years. World War II generated 221 combat deaths a day for four years. Apples and oranges, to a large extent, but thought you'd like to know.
I know the leftist objective is to get Bush to cut and run--like Clinton in Somalia--to bail out on the Iraqi people yet again, which would be exactly the failure the Left is looking for. They shouldn't hold their breath.
