Asserting that you made your point has about as much power as Bush's assertions about Iraqi WMD have to make them suddenly appear....
And what do the daily casualty counts during combat in WWII and Vietnam have to do with the rate after the end of hostilities? We're talking about postwar occupation here, not combat.
BTW, advocates of war with Iraq liked to promise that the occupation of Iraq would be just like that of Japan. You wouldn't happen to know how much guerilla warfare our troops faced during the Japanese occupation, would you? I don't recall that there was any--when Japan surrendered, it surrendered completely. Using Germany as a comparison seems a bit disingenuous, don't you think?
You can nitpick all you want about how long it's been, but that's just nitpicking. It was only this morning we were discussing Bremer's belief that we'll need to maintain a fullstrength army in Iraq for at least a couple of years. Sounds to me like US officials don't expect the guerilla war to taper off any time soon...whether it happens to be 3 months, 4 months, 5 months or whatever at the moment, US troops will be facing resistance for a long time to come. That's the substantive reality. If anybody's made a point here, it's me (with a little help from Paul Bremer).
