RE: "Yes I have read the references you cited. That's how I know the arguments against life on Mars are flawed. This doesn't mean the case in favor of life on Mars is proven, only that the frequent claim that life on Mars is "virtually impossible" is not supported by the evidence."

Who says this beside Gary? Every other technically competant person I've read on this board and even Barry's favorite boogeyman Zubrin admits life may exist on Mars. They all simply claim that there is no conclusive evidence for life on Mars. Zubrin's website frequently links to news articles promoting the possibilities of life on Mars. The harshest science based claims with one exception is that life can not exist on the surface of Mars do to a lack of liquid water. Frozen water and subsurface water do not rule out that position.

Gary promotes the position that life would leave a chemical signature in the atmosphere which we know does not exist. I find that a plausible position, but one not supported by evidence until we find that Mars does have places which could support life from Earth but does not have any life there.

Scientists do not need BD to tell them what that life is still possible on Mars. There are people getting graduate degrees in astrobiology hoping to work on life from Mars. BD's claim to fame rides on Levin's claim that LR results are best explained by life which there are many scientific reasons to doubt.
