re: those sneaky bastards

I'm also infected with the C:\Windows\ConfigSys folder which contained dateeng.dll
droenge.dll
index.html
pop.html

I deleted the files inside this folder but when I attempted to delete the folder itself I received the following error:

*******
Error Deleting File or Folder
Cannot delete ConfigSys: It is being used by another person or program.

Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.
OK
*******

I will watch to see if the folder again gets re-populated with the .dll and .html files. I also did not use BoomBox, I have no idea what it got installed with but I will post the culprit if I do find it. I also submitted a request to AdAware to have them review it as a possible spyware target for future versions of the software.

If anyone figures out who else places this popup generator besides BoomBox please post as well.

P.S. also, if anyone figures out how this initiates the popup in the first place I would love to know. It appears that it is random but like one of the other posters this makes it seem as if there is some process running in the background all the time. I have recieved popups for Amazon.com and iFriends Community.

Keep the information coming! Great forum!
