re: those sneaky bastards

It isn't just Boombox. I've never used that program and I got the ConfigSys folder and popups on my system.

In my search for solutions, I came across another forum - didn't bookmark it and can't find it now - where someone said java-based games were a culprit. He said his wife was always playing java games and her computer kept getting messed up with stuff like ConfigSys. He recommended turning off java.

For several months, I've been playing a game which is probably a java game. It's called Fishy and it's put out by Xgen Studios. I played for several months with no problem until a little over a week ago.

I was suspicious of Fishy even before I read about java games being a problem because one day the game loaded very very slowly and I was able to see where stuff was coming from at the bottom of my browser. A lot of it looked like ad-related stuff, and it looked like there was far more than necessary for the ads that appear on the page.

Sure enough, after I left the game, the ConfigSys folder was in my Windows directory again. I deleted it. I haven't played Fishy since, and the folder has not returned.
