- Assuming these people were not naked and wearing hoods for being jaywalkers, does someone have a brilliant idea as to exactly how one does extract information on the insurgency that will save American and Iraqi lives? Bring out "The Comfy Chair" and "Soft Cushions" maybe? Being held in a cell with three meals a day is not going to impress someone who cheerfully sets off bombs among worshipping pilgrims at a holy site, or bombs near a school bus.
Discomfort does work. You could try:
* "slapping them prisoners around a bit".
* Hooded during questioning.
* Individual prisoner segregation (AKA solitary confinement), which builds your interrogation base.
* Sleep deprivation.
* Food rationing.
* Water rationing (as Muslims require washing prior to daily prayers).
* Constant overhead lighting.
* Irritating noises at odd hours, day & night.
* Abrupt, distracting noises at odd hours, day & night.
* Constant activity in corridors outside cells.
* A show of “comfortable†and “happy†Coalition guards.
Just a few.
This does work, Tom. And while it remains possible the result might not include the desired intelligence, by the same token your people won’t be thinking about their upcoming move to and extended stay at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas -- at government expense.
