"The idea of interrogation is to reward the source for cooperation. Now, that reward could be as simple as being a genial host during the interrogation, by providing your source with coffee and a Danish.

Ask any cop if this tactic has merit."

I'm talking science and you want hearsy. There is some merits, of course, and there is also some merit to various "faith healing"- it's not the issue.

"It can also be as complex as making a person's everyday existence a living hell, until such time as cooperation is achieved. Take away comfort 24 hours a day, and there will be a serious change in your prisoner’s attitude. At the slightest hint of cooperation, some deprived comfort item would then be provided, emphasizing that this item is the direct result of cooperation. From then, the greater the cooperation, the greater the comfort received. Satisfying a source's needs for positive behavior is basic for interrogation. Doable incentives may be offered for information as well, such as family visits, tobacco, special foods, and ice."

This is the theory but does it actually work- that's my point.
Let's try a differnent angle, if the above works on prisoners, it would also work on children. [Yes, I know people *do* actually use similar methods on children, but does that really work?]

"Once you have complete control, it’s really not that difficult"

Complete control of a functioning human being is merely a fantasy. Yes, it is possible to de-humanize humans, but is this really neccessary- or is mostly just a succumbing to our "evil nature".
