Google offers prizes but YOU prefer to make government money recipients need YOU as an intermediary. Sticky fingers?

In response to:

>>>The NSF gave my employer money for us to divide up among outside research projects... we got none of the money for our own use, we made a public announcement that we were looking to fund research to advance a certain technology, we got a dozen proposals and we VERY impartially evaluated the proposals and chose 2-3 that we felt would do the most to advance the technology, neither the reviewers (myself included) or our organizations actually recieved any money- The NSF (wisely) felt that decisions about that proposals should get funded were best made by the experts in the field... HOW the hell would 'prizes' be at all applicable in this situation... I know that you resent that you arent an expert in anything, but some of us are- and it often makes sense to have the experts decide what research deserves funding- The fact that you dont see this just shows how little you understand your subject...<<<

So you prefer to make government money recipients need YOU as an intermediary. How surprising. [NOT]. The NSF pursues goals, and asked YOU to help dictate how best to achieve them by "impartially" selecting research projects. You know quite well that the NSF could have simply said:

HEY, we want to find a more effective way to achieve a goal. We'll let each competing team determine what research needs to be done to reach that goal. Whoever achieves the goal first will get a prize. The runner-up will get a smaller one.

Google uses that approach:

I bet you despise the guys at Google, what with all their success, money, and total independence from the realm of tax-leeching. They remind you of the failure that mommy and daddy were always embarrassed to admit that you might become. You're in denial, just like Nixon was when he said he'd not change a thing if he had it all to do over again. You DO serve one less-than-utterly-useless purpose though. Debating skills get rusty if not used in unconventional scenarios once in a while. Who was it that claimed a rational being like me can't argue with a sick mind?
