Hey, I was there, okay?
I'm not going to bust my ass documenting piece by piece the timeline of the kind of coverage the veterans got, compared to, say, somebody the media dug up in Alabama who said he didn't remember Bush being there, but this article covers the main points, including pointing out that prior to the media breakout, the broadcast networks had done 9 stories on the Swift Boat Veterans, and 75 on Bush's National Guard service.
I say again, if it wasn't for alternatives to CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the others who firmly spiked this story through most of the spring of 2000, nobody would ever have heard of this, everyone would assume that Kerry was in fact in Cambodia, and he would probably be president right now.
You can still hear teeth grinding over this in the halls of the mainstream media. Maybe you haven't noticed a bit of defensiveness and hostility toward the blogosphere lately?
