A couple of points:

You might not remember that the media gave the Swift Boat Veterans no coverage at all for weeks. Their original press conferences went almost unattended. No interviews. No stories.

In fact, the Kerry campaign strategy relied on the fact that the media would give the veterans no coverage, which is why they chose not to initially address the issue.

The veterans had enough money to play a TV ad in a couple of states. That was about it.

If it wasn't for alternative media giving them exposure, and allowing everyone to see the ads and information, it is likely that the vast majority of Americans would never have known they existed.

When the internet and other alternative media broadcast the information to everyone, the Democrats finally had to respond, and so did the media. You might find it instructive to go back and see what kind of coverage the New York Times was giving the Swift Boat Veterans. Hint: it wasn't positive.

I can document all this if you are stubborn about it, but your memory of events should be as good as mine.

If not for the internet, I submit that Kerry would be President today.

As for academia, if the Left can climb a flagpole and gibber when something related to creationism comes within a mile of a school, I think we can talk about schools feeding our children other noxious concepts.

Churchill is the far end of the curve, but I will tell you that there are quite a few just like him on every university campus I've ever spent time on.
