will oppose EVERYTHING that works on environmental grounds, including Sea Solar Power. Sea Solar Power offers the SMALLEST environmental effect of all possible large-scale power sources. But it will certainly have some effect.
The Luddites refuse to acknowledge that SIX BILLION human beings are going to have an impact on the environment NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO. If we gave up fertilizer, herbicide, or insecticide use, we would need to cut down more forests for agriculture to make up for reduced yields. If we all get "modern" standards of living, huge acreages will be conveted into roads, factories, shopping centers, homes, etc.
I want to point out an astonishing fact: The TOTAL MASS of all human beings alive today exceeds the TOTAL MASS of all other vertebrates COMBINED. Take the weight of all of the fishes in the sea, add the whales & seals, etc, now take all the land vertebrates, from shrews and mice up to elephants, put them on one pan of a giant balance scale. Put the humans on the other pan. The pan with the humans will go down.
How in the hell can such a huge mass of active animals with high metabolic rates fail to effect the environment detrimentally? Answer: They can't.
Of course, the Luddites ignore the consequences of their idiotic proposals: Mass starvation, for one. They don't care. Beneath their "liberal" exteriors they are among the most selfish humans alive.
