These people actually do have the Constitution behind them. Christianity is not entitled to use public land as a billboard to advertize itself. Neither is any other religion.
I know you don't like it. That doesn't make them nuts, or malicious. That only makes them disagreeable to you. They haven't killed anybody. Easter will still be celebrated this year. And there has been at least one discussion in the nation about the nature of religious freedom and what it means not to be a member of a religion that gets government sponsorship. Whether you can see it or not, that's a net positive.
I bet you that your school district will still have the Christmas holidays off next year, as well. Not Hanukkah. Not Tet. Not part of Ramadan. And do you know why? Because a creditable argument can be made that Christmas is no longer primarily a religious holiday, but a commercial one. This is one of the side-effects: when trying to force religion on a multi-sectarian nation, the only way that a dominant religion can remain entrenched without resorting to prison and heresy trials is to deny the spiritual nature of its own holidays and symbols. That's another, and even more important, reason why religion should remain private.
