"Related" isn't good enough.

Intrinsic meaning is the issue. Historical and artistic significance have made and do make things different, specifically by denying the religious content of the item because of the other non-religious significance makes an object of it rather than a symbol.

In this case, the monument is at a veterans' memorial. Not all veterans are Christian. To exclude the memory or warp the identity of any veteran by including a religious symbol without including any others that reflect the reality of the composition of our armed forces, and to do it with government money, is just as wrong as it is unConstitutional.

Do you think that the presence of a symbol associated with the central belief of Christianity, a symbol that concerns death and resurrection, in a place that (among other things) honors the dead, was chosen with anything less than a religious meaning in mind?

I understand your frustration over the cross on the seal, as a case can be made for historical rather than religious significance because of the pivotal role played by the missions in the establishment of California. But the court's decision should rule. Decisions have been challenged before. If you feel strongly about it, go ahead. It's a free country. :)
