But being brain dead is not necessarily exclusive with Terri Schiavo. She seems to share this with the so-called Christian right that are swarming to Florida to champion her cause.
The absence of Florida supporters in this loud, embarrassing, and futile protest should be noteworthy. Florida folk have gone through 15 long years of the court battles over this matter. There is nothing new here. A family tragedy is simply that until the shrillness of the zealots screaming "bigotry and murder" are played up in the media.
Consider for a moment the long suffering of this woman's husband, to watch someone you loved turned into a vegitable and sustained for 15 years by artificial feeding would be a torture beyond imagination. Then to turn this angst into a media and nut-cake feeding frenzy goes way outside the pale.
Now, to make the claim this woman is "disabled" and have the cajones to call anyone not buying into this line of BS a bigot is not only insulting, it is preposterous.
Yes, I will agree that Terri Shiavo suffers the ultimate disability--being dead for 15 years and perpetuated by life support. And yes, her condition has been assessed by the courts and experts over and over again during this long, long time.
Of course, if you were really a good Christian you should prefer her being in Heaven rather than suffering the indignity of feeding tubes and diapers in a hospice bed.
An appropriate prayer might be, "Father, grant this family peace."
