Euthanasia

Euthanasia, to the best of my knowledge is legal in only one state, the State of Oregon, and even this is being disputed in federal court.

The withdrawal of artificial life support or medical treatment to allow someone to die naturally is simply not the same thing as taking direct and specific action to euthanize someone.

I personally to do object to euthanasia, but the law does distinguish it from removal of life support.

As for the withholding of food and hydration, this is actually a very humane way to allow a terminal patieint to die. It happens hundreds of times every day in this country. Medications can be given to make the patient more comfortable if he or she is conscious, but as the kidneys fail, urea in the blood causes a form of euphoria.

I personally believe the right and moral thing is finally happening with Terri Schiavo. In reality, she died nearly fifteen years ago. All that's left is a living body without a mind. Its terribly sad. I am grateful to see that she will soon find peace.
