Current Events » in reply to "Spouse" is kind of loosely defined.

Thats not a reasonable response. Thats a slander

Mr. Schiavo had a right to accept what the medical profession had told him for 7 years- that his wife was dead. TEN years ago, he tried to exercise his right to suspend life support. Just because the parents and the right wing refused to allow that to happen does not mean he isn't entitled to move on in other ways. And just becuase he moved on in other ways does not void the fact that he TRIED to exercise this right before moving on and has a RIGHT to see this to the nasty conclusion forced by the parents and the religious right.

You already grant the TS is, as you put it, 'Flank Steak'- why do you hold Mr. Schiavo morally decrepit for wanting to move on? Its not his fault that the parents and the state blocked the exercise of his rights. And he has a right to fight it out- its his decision under the law and under the covenant of marriage.

"But I wouldn't have done what Michael did in a million years so there's no real identification with his situation for me."

Thats very EASY to say, a very convinient position to take. I bet you would have no darn clue what you really would do if your wife was in a coma for 7 years.

I look at Mr. Schiavo and I say: "There but by the grace of the Universe go I". I sure as hell am not going to judge him, and I find it comical that you do. Even granting the position you are in in life, you have NO real point of reference here- as you point out yourself- apples and oranges.
