re: Griffin tries to pitch "lifeboat Mars"

"What the public wants is for NASA to find the next threatening comet or asteroid before it hits and prevent it from happening"

Evidence? ANY Evidence of this at all?

" improving the performance of earth observation satellites to the point they're useful,"

Yes - because the weather satellites that monitored, tracked and gave days of warning of recent hurricanes were utterly useless Ed! What the HELL are you on about now?

"It just so happens that the Moon s the best place to find those asteroids and comets."

Well- since you ACTUALLY argued the point of building thousands of miles of cabling on the moon to power this at any place other than the south pole, it's clear that what you're talking about isnt some plausable valid science program, but some sci-fi fantasty, the capacity for which wont exist for hundreds of years.

There is NOTHING that you're mentioned that couldnt be done quicker, better and cheaper in free space.
