Even a half-hearted examination of the purposes of both barriers, the deadliness of each, and the motives behind them, should eliminate any possible idea of a parallel between them, other than both of them being physical structures designed to inhibit movement of people.
As far as an "unfair" use of resources goes, the U.S.S.R., despite sitting on a huge portion of the world's natural resources, never amounted to much economically past a Third World country. Nations like Japan, Hong Kong, or other small wealthy nations with few of their own resources, prospered.
Mexico's problem isn't that we're using up all the "resources." It's that they have a political and economic system that can't support its own people and has to export poverty north.
