re: Anyone not able to see the US resembling Germany under Hitler now?

Bowser, watching the attacks on you below, I'm struck by one major flaw in their logic. From what I read, you're merely pointing out that there were stages in Hitler's rise to power that resemble events that are occurring in our country now. I completely concur if that's your intent.

Obviously, our country is not at the stage where the Gestapo were entering homes, dragging out citizens, and shooting them in the streets. However, for Americans to be deluded that it couldn't happen here without eternal vigilance is absolutely misguided. Heck, a good portion of American citizens have the same genetic material flowing through their veins that the citizens of Nazi Germany did. The dark side of human nature spans across all countries and cultures and our history and Constitution cannot fend it off all by itself. It takes a diligent citizenry willing to endure public scorn and danger to fight against it.

Daniel mentions below that our current situation is more akin to McCarthyism than Naziism. Of course he's right but where would we be had a few individuals not stood up to McCarthy? That's a spooky thought. That tipping point where the national consciousness turns into 1940 Germany is a precarious one and simply sluffing things off as "It'll never happen here" is a bit naive.
