re: Cool.

I get your point, but I need to point out that it misses the mark. I actually think that there is a danger coming from the Left, but it's not those hapless academics, it's the Democratic Party itself.

Since the 2004 elections, Democrats have been studying the NeoRepublican playbook 24/7 to figure out how they did it, and you can be absolutely certain that after the political wheel turns, we're going to have to deal with Democrats trying to behave as badly as the NeoRepublicans.

At this point, my thinking has evolved into a belief that in times of flux, there's an opportunity for the middle to reassert itself. A swing to an opposite ideological extreme is the default, but perhaps the swing can by mitigated by resistance from the center.

After a decade of NeoRepublicans, I find myself nostalgic for the real Republicans. I think the Neos deceived Republicans as much as everybody else, and I'd welcome the liberation of the Republican Party and its restoration to its once-honorable role in American politics. I can live with Republicans, it's those damn NeoRepublicans I can't abide.

I'm guided by a belief that there's a win-win possible, and America will benefit greatly from it.
