Smaller Tom "Of course it's all America's fault."

Those are your words, not mine, and part of the dreary pattern I've observed by which you fit whatever anyone says into a sadly small vocabulary of stock caricatures. What you think is your understanding of the world is no more than familiarity with the fictional universe populated by straw men that you and your fellow Conservatives have constructed for yourselves.

"Of course it's all America's fault" is, of course, the inescapable flip side to "America deserves all the credit". In real life you don't get to cherry pick the things you take responsibility for. Nor, as Mary Anne pointed out, do you get to slide by on the balance tipping marginally toward the good. If you don't believe in moral relativism, then you don't get to practice it.

We're just illuminating the fundamental attitudinal differences between Conservatives and Progressives. You tend to complacency, to want to stop and rest on our laurels, and be satisfied with the good we've done so far. I recognize the good we've done so far, but recognize that there's always room for improvement in the work of imperfect humans, and that it's not a burden but a joy of duty: There is no higher calling for the citizen of a free society than to work for its continual improvement.

I look forward to participating while America does more good; I'm not content to just praise the good works of my forebears and call it good enough.
