"We don't get points for being good in the past."
You know what's depressing? We don't get points for anything.
We saved Muslims in Bosnia. Freed fifty million Muslims from tyrants. Saved Europe from Hitler and Pacific nations from Japan.
We spend billions on aid. We're usually the first on the scene to help in a disaster. Our technology has fed millions, cured disease, made deserts bloom, and made the world a better place to live.
And we'll keep on doing it, because that's what we do.
And yes, that should buy us some goddam credit. Especially since eighty percent of the "oppression" or "destructive behavior patterns" we're accused of is lies from those who use those lies to gain and keep power among their own people.
