I know we get crapped on. I know some of it is propaganda. I know some of it is good, honest loathing from people who don't like something we did.
I also don't pin my national pride to what other people say. I already know the United States has a lot to offer. My head is hanging pretty low right now because I know we are not behaving like the beacon of hope we want to be. It has nothing to do with what non-Americans are saying. It has everything to do with what I expect my country to be.
Sure, throw Darfur to the dogs. They're poor. What would be in it for us? We can 'show the world' and it won't cost us anything meaningful. I mean, who cares? If people are going to say nasty things about us, we won't play with them anymore. That'll teach 'em. Not.
One does the right thing not to get praise, not even to get noticed, but because it's the right thing.
