You got that right.
When I worked in New Orleans the company I worked for was very diverse. One of my friends was a very attractive Indian Seik girl with a quite dark complexion but delicate Indian features. Being in the South she was often mistaken for being AA and it enraged her. She had very deep prejudice against African Americans.
My best friend and co-worker at that time was Panamanian. He had light olive skin but he had dark hair and slightly native American features associated with Central American latinos. Some of his family were almost completely European in appearance.
I wouldn't call Gabe a total bigot but he left no doubt about how he felt about his station in life vs the people of color in his country or ours. He referred to himself as a "Robbie Blanco". I have no idea if that is the correct spelling but that is phonetically correct. I gathered that in his country it meant something like high born with light skin.
Speaking of the food, I love Cuban and Central American food. They have no such restaurants in Mobile but in NOLA we would lunch at one of several good Cuban cafes a couple of times a week.
Just thinking of it makes me want to drive to NOLA for a Cuban sandwich.
Anyway, the point is we all share good qualities and bad.
