So how to use that tool? One possibility: at the time of kidnappings, instead of destroying the bridges and airport and bombing everything in sight Israel pauses and says: "This is an act of war. A member of your government has claimed credit for it. Are we to understand that Lebanon wishes to be at war with Israel?" After the negative response: "Then what will Lebanon do to remedy the situation? What will Lebanon do to keep it from ever happening again?" What is Hiz saying at this point? Are they spliting themselves into a political portion that disavows the actions of the militant portion (not likely, Hiz has not operated this way in the past)? Briefly: Israel makes the case to the world that Hiz is the aggressor, that Hiz is tolerated by Lebanon, and that an act of war is an act of war. And they get the international community on their side.
What would the situation have been after Israel had wasted weeks arriving at the same place they were to begin with? Other than the prisoners having been transshipped to Iran or Syria.
Do you think one single international opinion would be different if Israel had invaded Lebanon three months from now instead of now? Or that the fighting would have been less severe after Hezbollah had more time to arm and fortify?
Good God, look at the history. Israel bailed out of Lebanon six years ago, assured that the utterly useless United Nations would enforce the terms of that deal, including disarming Hezbollah. How did that work?
Listen very carefully:
Israel has been transmitting the messages you recommended for twenty goddam years. What has it bought them? Who listened? What were the results?
The Left in America and elsewhere are playing the Useful Idiots for Hezbollah, pretty much on cue.
