So what is Israel supposed to do?

Accept a general background level of terror deaths--something along the lines of 700 since 2000? What is the exit strategy for this situation?

Have you looked up how many time Hezbollah attacked Israel since 2000? Never mind before that.

What else is Israel supposed to do?

They have used targeted assassinations of terror leaders to avoid civilian casualties, and been condemned for it.

They have used general standard warfare, pitting uniformed soldiers against enemies in civilian clothes who break every law of warfare and use civilians as shields, and been condemned for it.

They have withdrawn from territory into their tiny country, and seen their enemies dance in victory, and renew their vows to destroy Israel.

They have refrained from using weapons and tactics that their enemies would use on them in a minute if they had them.

Their enemies have used negotiation time to rearm, and plan new attacks.

BTW, you'll note that the U.S. is in this same boat.
