You made up every word of that

What's your basis for any of those assertions? Including the part about intimidating the USA--it's my assertion that under the anti-leadership of Bush, America's acting plenty intimidated, and there's a whole lot more evidence of my assertion than any of yours. Well, except maybe the one about hating Bush, but that's just playing the global odds.

Let's focus extra attention on this one: "they feel that the only way to remove him is to stage bigger and better terrorist attacks to discredit him". That is entirely irrational, David. Bush and the Republicans have staked their political futures solely on fighting the war on terror, forever and ever, amen. How could stepping up terrorist attacks possibly discredit Bush? Seems like it could only validate his injunction to "be afraid, be very afraid".

Sorry but if--and remember that my notion was entirely hypothetical, for discussion purposes only--the recent upswing in reports of terrorist plots (but not of actual incidents), is real and generated by the terrorists, then it must reflect their judgment of how to affect the election to their advantage. The whole world knows about the upcoming election; American elections haven't been parochial events in decades.

Or it's a wag-the-dog scenario. Damned if that doesn't appear more logical at this juncture. Logic isn't the same as true, but it satisfies Occam's Razor, because denying it doesn't require the contortions you evidenced in your post.
