Your "proportions" argument falls a bit flat. If you want, we can take the Irish casualties and calculate the percentage of all Catholics or Protestants, and see what we get.
We're not talking about Italian immigrants in America, or southern Europeans. We're talking about something going on across the planet, in many different nations and cultures.
Maybe the views Wahabbis and Taliban are based on Arabic traditions, but they aren't screaming "Arab culture!" as they attack and kill, and oddly, I don't recall a lot of Arab Christians or Jews in the Middle East committing terrorist acts. Even in proportion to their small numbers.
Again, it's amazing how hard people are trying desperately to avoid the obvious problem.
