Muslims in the news.

Until the fall of the Soviet Union, Muslims mostly made the news when they were fighting with Israelis or in the case of Iran taking hostages at the US Embassy. Although we knew about the Iran-Iraq War, it was seldom in the news unless something got in the way of the oil.

The Taliban made the news, too. They were heroic freedom fighters against godless Communism then, except to the feminists, who were dismissed as leftist wackos.

"Better education" under the Communists, hm? Why, yes! Just look at all the access to information and experience in self-rule citizens received. Look at China today. Heck, look at the Aral Sea and Chernobyl. A cavalier attitude toward industrial safety and unsound environmental policies hardly strike me as hallmarks of better education.

(Come to think of it, American education is no great shakes, especially by those measures, at the moment either, but at least we know how to self-organize.)

The world is a lot more complicated than it appears through the lens of sectarian hatred.

If you want to justify your hatred of religion, or of a particular religion, just use the tools of hatred. Objectify the ones you hate and pretend that makes you better than them. We need more hate in the world.
