I would suggest that religious belief should be frowned upon
If the Taliban fought the communists, that doesn't make them heros, it just proves they will always start a fight. The religously-based hatred is theirs. They hated the communists because they weren't muslim. Today they hate us because we are not muslim. We were dumbasses to support them against the communists. We should have let the communists overrun them. Maybe their radicalism would have been moderated by now, through growth and infrastructure and integration with a modern way of life, and by putting the extremists in gulags instead of in political office.
