"Close enough..."

"... for government work", the phrase usually ends. (I tend to use the ending learned in high school band, while tuning up: "Close enough for jazz.")

Actually, a very good hypothesis that fits the available evidence (the complexity AND indifference of nature) is that god exists but he just doesn't interfere. He made the world so perfectly he no longer needs to stick around to manage it.

A popular philosophy in modern liberal Judaism is known by the Hebrew tikkun olam, usually rendered as "fixing the World". The idea behind it is: God deliberately didn't finish creation, in order to give us something important to do: help Him/Her complete the project.

Granted, the World works perfectly according to the Laws of Physics -- whether or not we humans have yet deduced them all. The World does not work at all perfectly in accordance with the Law (allegorically) handed to us at Sinai. That's our job. And we're supposed to get it done without the Boss stepping in. That's what "chosen people" really means, btw: saddled with the responsibility.

Tikkun olam ain't just busy-work.
