I have my own theory.
There's a little nest of cockroaches in one of the pantries of one of the galleys of an aircraft carrier. Every now and then one manages to make it to a porthole take a quick look at the fleet outside, and then (if he's lucky) manages to scurry back and tell the others. "There's an incredible world out there. Not only do we live in this huge, wonderful place, there are many other places out there, just as big as this one, maybe bigger, for as far as the eye can see."
The others nod sagely and think to themselves, "Isn't it wonderful how this marvelous creation was built and put into motion just for us? We must be really important."
