As I have stated, I feel intelligent life was the purpose for God to create the universe (Using the Big Bang and Evolution following his physical laws). He wanted intelligent life forming independently from him.
But as to what our purpose is, now that he has us (And by ‘us’ I mean all intelligent life in the Universe), I don’t know. Perhaps it is as simple as you say. Perhaps we are here so God is not lonely. I hadn’t considered that before.
