One of the people in the article said "It is something I can't explain but I'm sure it wasn't lanterns." (miniature hot air balloons) Now maybe he is a PhD in inflatable device kinesiology, but I have seen a weather balloon, known what it was, and STILL been impressed by how it moved... seeming to stand still, then move one direction only to reverse direction, move in a circle- 'vanish' when it moved behind clouds. You are only really seeing a 2-dimensional projection of its movement. NOTHING in the article seemed at odds with the balloon explanation.
